So much changed in that moment, and time since has both sped and crawled by.  He would be both proud and frustrated this year.  It’s been tough for everyone without him.

He would be proud for so many reasons, because the team have continued and extended his legacy, and with Paralympic selection looming, it is a time when we particularly see (some of) the athletes Wales is made of.  He always thrived on that.  Performance pathway colleagues are forging programs which will continue to identify the athletes of the future, and working alongside other colleagues to ensure the sector keeps a focus on inclusion.  In partnership with the Welsh Sports Foundation a fund has been set up in Ant’s name and will focus on getting resources which can’t be accessed elsewhere to disabled people who need that extra something for them to continue their involvement with physical activity and sport.  He had talked about this for a long time, establishing it as part of his legacy wasn’t what we had hoped, but we’re sure he would be thinking “about time!”

He would also have been frustrated though, DSW will be receiving reductions to investment over the next two financial years, and there are risks to events which really showcase para sport on the world stage.  Ant was always passionate about the change DSW facilitates, but sometimes change comes too early.  We all feel that about the past year in so many ways.

Onwards always, but we miss you Ant.
