Wheelchair Basketball
Wheelchair Basketball is sport of skill and physicality where teams block, steal and rebound their way to victory. Wheelchair basketball made its debut in the 1960 Paralympic Games.
The sport is very similar to standing basketball; two teams of five players play to score the most points. Athletes score two points for a basket within the three-point line, three points from the outside, and one point for sinking each free throw. Games consist of four 10-minute periods and extra time if score are tied. The court, the hoop and the backboards are the same dimension as Olympic basketball.
3x3 Wheelchair Basketball
This new format of Wheelchair Basketball made its debut at the 2022 Commonwealth Games
3x3 Wheelchair Basketball is played on half a basketball court, teams are made up of three on court players with a fourth as a substitute. Rolling substitutions and frequent turnovers keep this an exciting sport to play and watch. There are local clubs across Wales where you can play a variety of formats of Wheelchair Basketball.
