Development Officer Post: 3 Year Contract
Whilst an active network of clubs across Swansea and the West of Wales already exists, development is needed in all areas of Wales, especially South and South East Wales.
Sight loss training will be provided, as well as safeguarding training.

Location:
Office facilities at Wales Council of the Blind, Cardiff, with the option of flexible and remote working. The post holder will be expected to travel within Wales, as and when required. Whilst an active network of clubs across Swansea and the West of Wales already exists, development is needed in all areas of Wales, especially South and South East Wales.
WAVIB is seeking a passionate and hands-on individual to fulfil the role of development officer to oversee the promotion of the game of bowls for blind and partially sighted people across Wales. The post holder will be self-employed.
The post holder will develop opportunities to grow existing clubs, as well as work with partners to create new ones. The post holder will bring people together and build strong relationships in and across communities, as well as help more people to reach their potential, by supporting them at the earliest possible stage.
The post holder will also work to develop opportunities for volunteering and to promote the game of bowls to people with sight loss and encourage integration within community-based clubs. The Development Officer will explore sources of funding for the continuation of this role.
Key duties:
- To attract more people with sight loss to play Bowls
- To develop new clubs and increase membership of existing ones.
- The ability to promote, organise and coordinate ‘have a go’ days for blind and partially sighted people wishing to try bowls for the first time.
- To attract additional coaches to game to support players at both grassroots and international level.
- Support WAVIB with the development of sight loss awareness training for all coaches and volunteers.
- Identifying and building new partnerships to increase opportunities for growth and sustainability of clubs and the sport.
- Maintaining effective communication with all stakeholders to engage and contribute to the work of the WAVIB.
The ideal person should possess:
- The ability to run events and establish sustainable clubs for bowlers with sight loss.
- Knowledge of Safeguarding Children and Vulnerable Adults.
- An ability to self-start, motivate and inspire others.
- Good administrative skills, including record keeping and the ability to use the Microsoft Office Suite to intermediate level at least.
- Ability to work from home including excellent time management skills and self-motivation.
- Willingness to work flexibly, including evenings and weekends.
- An understanding, or willingness to learn, of the challenges faced by blind and partially sighted people when participating in sport.
