Emerging Athlete of the Year Award

Nominate an athlete who broke through in 2023-24

This award recognises the outstanding achievement of an emerging athlete during 2023/24. This category is restricted to athletes who have made a break-through in 2023-24 which may include achieving selection to a Welsh or UK National Governing Body squad or team.

You can submit your nomination in a number of ways:

What we’re looking for:

  • Evidence of achievements between 1st September 2023 – 23rd August 2024

  • Evidence to demonstrate potential to achieve future international honours at Commonwealth, European or World level

  • Dedication and commitment to their sport

  • Evidence from their Welsh/UK National Governing Body of their potential within their sport/s.

Process for selection from total nominees: 

  • Internal Panel will shortlist to six nominees
  • Six nominees will be referred for consideration to an independent Awards Panel, who will select a category winner and two other finalists
  • Should your application be shortlisted, the Nominator may be required to provide further detail to the nomination at the award panel which will take place in September 2024.
  • The winner will be revealed at our Celebrating Paris homecoming dinner on October 4th 2024.

Video Submission Guidance

If you would prefer to submit your nomination in a video format, for example so that you can use British Sign Language, please make sure to include the same information we require in the written form. You can use the following as a checklist to help you:

  • The name of the award you are nominating for (e.g. "Emerging Athlete of the Year Award")
  • The name of the athlete you are nominating
  • The nominee's address, post code, contact number and email address
  • The nominee's date of birth
  • The sport(s) the nominee competes / competed in
  • The number of years they have been / were active as an athlete

Submitting your video:

Once you are happy with your video, you can get it to us in a number of ways:

  • Send us the video via WhatsApp: +44 7341 524 476 . The audio will be received by Ffion Alexander-Jones, Disability Sport Wales Finance and Charity Officer.
     
  • Upload it to a secure Cloud Storage service (e.g. Microsoft OneDrive, Google Drive, Dropbox etc.) and share the file with awards@disabilitysportwales.com 
     
  • Use a large file delivery service (e.g. WeTransfer) to send the video privately to awards@disabilitysportwales.com 


We require names, email addresses, phone numbers etc. to be included in your submission as we may need to contact you as nominator, or the nominee as part of the assessment of the Award. For this reason, your video submission will contain information that should not be publicly shared. We ask that you do not upload your nomination to public video sharing or social media websites and services like YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, TikTok etc.
