Research & Insight
Within Disability Sport Wales, we design, carry out, and support research projects to enable DSW as an organisation to make insight-led and research-informed decisions.
Through the research that DSW carries out and supports, we are able to understand the experiences of disabled people within sport and physical activity in Wales, understand the motivations for taking part, identify any challenges that disabled people experience when accessing physical activity and sport, plus how DSW can actively enhance disabled people’s experiences and provide them with more opportunities to meet their desired sporting goals.
Current research projects include:
- On a quarterly basis, DSW track progress towards our strategic priority areas using Key Performance Indicators and agreed targets.
- Biannual Inclusive Community Provision in Wales: Club & Session Survey.
- This survey aims to understand the range of inclusive opportunities available for disabled people within Wales.
- Biannual collection of case studies from local authorities on their inclusive projects and individuals.
- Ongoing evaluation of our education and training programmes and projects. For example, an evaluation of the Para Sport Festival 2023 and an evaluation of the Get Out Get Active project.
- An understanding of the provision of physical activity and physical education for young disabled people within Wales.
- Work in partnership with Welsh Institute of Performance Sport and the Welsh Institute of Physical Activity, Health, and Sport to carry out research.
- Provide guidance to Sport Wales on how to make their research more inclusive, such as the School Sport Survey and Sport and Active Lifestyles Survey.
