Education & Training

Disability Sport Wales, along with the four home nations, pioneered the UK Disability Inclusion Training course.

It was the first of its kind within disability sport, where coaches and volunteers could understand how to deliver inclusively and how to enhance their coaching to make it inclusive of disabled people. Disability Inclusion Training has now been expanded to include two versions: one for coaches and volunteers in sport and one for teachers and education staff. Disability Sport Wales also provide training on Play Together, Inclusive marketing, Autism Awareness (in partnership with Autism Wales), and coaching Boccia.

UK Disability Inclusion Training Courses
  • UK DIT for Coaches and Volunteers. Provides coaches and volunteers with an understanding of inclusive practice, practical examples of inclusive delivery, and the theory behind it.
  • UK DIT Education. This disability inclusion training is designed specifically for teachers and education staff. It is aligned to the new Curriculum for Wales and provides an opportunity for teachers to enhance their knowledge of delivering inclusive physical activity and physical education within schools.
  • UK DIT Leisure Service Providers. Provides leisure centre staff with an understanding of inclusive practice, guidance on inclusive communication, and how to support disabled people accessing leisure services.

Play Together

Play Together is a creative and fun inclusive learning programme for primary school children (Years 5 & 6, progression steps 2 & 3). The aim of the course is to help pupils create inclusive ways to include all children in the games and activities that they play. It raises their awareness of disability and inclusion, teaches them about perceptions of disabled people, how to create inclusive games, and adapt activities to make them inclusive of their disabled friends.
