In August 2023, Disability Sport Wales launched a brand new event format:

Disabled Young Leaders in Sport Inspiring Connections Event.

The event was an opportunity for disabled young people in sport to come together in an inclusive environment to build connections, be inspired, and inspire others.

Hosted at Cardiff’s Tramshed, the format comprised:

  • an informal networking lunch
  • an opportunities showcase (similar to a careers fayre), and;
  • a live recording of the Disability Sport Wales Podcast, featuring a panel of disabled young people in sport, alongside non-disabled allies.

It was a relaxed, inclusive event championing young leaders and organisations who support them. Attendance for disabled young leaders was free of charge, paid forward by the event’s generous exhibitors: BBC Cymru Wales, WRU, Whisper Cymru, Welsh Sports Association, Urdd Gobaith Cymru, Chambers Wales, Youth Sport Trust, Swim Wales and Sportin Wales magazine.

Disability Sport Wales aims for this concept to become an annual event, and in its first iteration took its inspiration from the podcast, with a theme of #JustAsk.
