Objectives for achieving insport NGB Silver Standard

As Case Officer, you must see ‘evidence’ that the aims for each insport Standard have been achieved by the NGB, and then it is the NGB’s responsibility to facilitate the demonstration of each aim.

You should not encourage the NGB to compile a file of evidence, but should arrange meetings with the insport NGB Lead Officer so that they can ‘see’ the support against each of the criteria.

Aims:

1. Workforce Development

  • Development of inclusive strands within all levels of Coach Education
  • Support development training plan for all Coach Educators and Tutor Trainers regarding inclusive practices.
  • To provide DIT courses for staff, including coaches, volunteers, and officials, and work alongside insport Club to include a roll-out programme for DIT to clubs.
  • To advocate Safeguarding Adults training in addition to Safeguarding Protecting Children training across club networks.
  • Develop a plan to support athletes through classification.
  • Working with clubs to achieve inclusion standards (whether sport’s own scheme or insport Club).

2. Programme Support

  • To identify an appropriate format for an inclusive Performance Pathway.
  • To develop participation opportunities, in conjunction with appropriate bodies.
  • To identify disabled participants’ needs within all aspects of the participant pathway, from  consultation to implementation (within programmes).

3. Organisation

  • Working with clubs to achieve inclusion standards (whether sport’s own accreditation or insport Club).
  • Develop an inclusive communication plan.
  • Create a Continuous Improvement Plan for developing EDI.

Aims:

1. Workforce Development
1.1  Development of inclusive strands within all levels of Coach Education.

Prompts

  • The coach education provision will have been reviewed for inclusion in the Bronze Standard – you need to work with the NGB to take that information and identify how they are going to enhance what they currently provide.
  • The NGB should be encouraged to develop resources which will be embedded within their current provision, rather than create ‘add-ons’.

Support

  • Minutes from coach education meetings identifying plans for the incorporation of inclusive content into the resources and delivery.
  • A coach education development plan which is signed off by the Board.
  • Curricula from existing coach education workshops and resources, identifying the inclusive nature of the content.

1.2  Support development training plan for all Coach Educators and Tutor Trainers regarding inclusive practices.

Prompts

  • Coach Educators and tutor trainers needs to be demonstrating good practice regarding inclusion, and disability sport needs to be represented within the tutor trainers workshops.
  • There should be a range of Continued Professional Learning (CPL) opportunities available to the coach educators/tutor trainers, and DIT should be part of this calendar – it isn’t sufficient to refer them to a generic Equity or Equality Training workshop.

Support

  • Evidence that Coach Educators and Tutor Trainers are scheduled to attend or have attended Disability Inclusion Training.
  • Provision of a Coach Educator/ Tutor Trainer CPL calendar which includes DIT.
  • Overview of the Tutor Trainers’ workshop, and identification of where disability sport can be included.

1.3  To provide DIT courses for staff, including coaches, volunteers, and officials, and work alongside insport Club to include a roll-out programme for DIT to clubs.

Prompts

  • Encourage the NGB to consider where their clubs are and to target workshops at those clubs that are either currently engaged with the insport Club process, or those that the NGB feels should be part of the insport Club process.  The NGB should be working with those delivering at local level (whether they have their own officers, or whether through Sport Wales and DSW officers) to identify clubs, and target delivery of workshops.

Support

  • Delivery plan for DIT workshops to NGB staff, and Coaches and Volunteers. This should link into DIT plans relating to insport Club.
  • Calendar of CPL including DIT.  This may be an electronic calendar hosted on the website, or a fixed calendar printed each year. Reference to policy provided to a partner organisation.

1.4  To advocate for Safeguarding Adults training in addition to Safeguarding and Protecting Children training across club networks.

Prompts

  • Has the NGB reviewed the Safeguarding Adults in Sport in Wales Hub.

Support

  • Reference to section of the NGB Welfare Policy which identifies that all club welfare officers & NGB staff should attend Adults at Risk training.
  • Inclusion of Adults at Risk training on CPL calendar.
  • Statement from Board identifying their commitment to providing Adults at Risk training.
1.5  Develop a plan to support athletes through classification.

Prompts

  • These should ideally be people who will contribute to coach education, or who may be involved with classification for the NGB.

  • Classification workshop must be within an internationally recognised classifiers pathway.

  • What steps need to be taken to shift towards classification.

  • Can this be done within Wales? How can we support equitable classification processes in this sport?

Support

  • Certificate of attendance from NGB staff on classifiers workshop.

  • Classification policy/criteria.

  • Meeting minutes with athlete/support organisation/UK Body.

  • Outlined plan.

1.6  Working with clubs to achieve inclusion standards (whether sport’s own scheme or insport Club).

Prompts

  • Encourage the NGB to identify (using the Club Inclusion Spectrum from the insport Club Resources) what format the sport provision takes within each club, so that they can use that information where the clubs are promoted.

  • This process will help the NGB understand what the current landscape of their sport is, but also what they need to provide to appropriately service their existing or potential disabled membership.

Support

  • Website identifies which clubs have inclusive accreditation (the NGBs own accreditation mark, or insport Club accreditation mark, relevant to the Standard they have attained).
  • A document which highlights clubs’ whereabouts, format of delivery and opportunity relevant to impairment groups and what level of insport Club or NGB accreditation they hold.
  • The sport should know which clubs have gained insport Club, or if the NGB have an inclusive club accreditation programme, which clubs have this, where they are, and what their provision looks like.

2. Programme Support
2.1 To identify an appropriate format for an inclusive Performance Pathway.

Prompts

  • Is the NGB aware of the current standing of their sport within a global ‘Para’ setting? What considerations are in place regarding planning for any potential future involvement? (including lobbying, coach education provision, official education).

Support

  • Sight of clear opportunities for disabled individuals to engage with the performance pathway (grassroots – elite performance).
  • Minutes of meetings with DSW Performance Pathway Officers at which development of pathway opportunities are discussed.
  • Reference to plans and/or policy where continued development of an inclusive participant pathway is included.
  • Process for the identification and profiling of future athletes is in place.
  • Demonstration of links to a GB pathway (if applicable).

2.2 To develop participation opportunities, in conjunction with appropriate bodies.

Prompts

  • Encourage the NGB to be strategic about where they are developing participation opportunities.
  • Clubs have been audited at Bronze and so the NGB should be aware of where current opportunity is, so support the NGB to identify where they need to do further development, and where needs maintaining.

Support

  • Participation development plan.
  • Email trails between Development Officers identifying development of participation opportunities within sport.
  • Minutes of meetings with LAs at which development of participation opportunities are discussed.

3. Organisation
3.1  Working with clubs to achieve inclusion standards (whether sport’s own accreditation or insport Club).

Support

  • Club scheme is inclusive.
  • Club support sessions.

3.2  Develop inclusive communication plan.

Prompts

  • The NGB may insist that each club provides an introduction pack for each new member to a club. You need to make sure that all the information generated by the NGB is inclusive (insport Club will ask that the club ensure any materials they produce are inclusive).
