insport Club Lead Officer's Resource Pack

The Lead Officer’s Role for the Club

The Lead Officer’s role is to act as a facilitator and the point of contact between the Case Officer and the club so as to be able to appropriately support the club making the transition from where they are now, with regards to inclusion, to where they want to be in the future (whether this be Ribbon, Bronze, Silver or Gold Standard).

It is NOT the Lead Officer’s role to do all the work to demonstrate or work towards inclusion, but it may be at Ribbon standard that they are the ones who refer the Case Officer to the information which identifies that they have achieved against each of the aims. By the very nature of the definition of inclusion, certainly at the higher Standards of insport Club, it is everyone’s job to ensure that opportunities are provided for, accessible to, and meet the needs of disabled people.

As the individual who volunteers for, or who is asked to take the Lead Officer role, you will be the primary contact point for the Case Officer, and you will inevitably feedback on progress and actions to the rest of the club. It may also be your role to coordinate who will be responsible for what within the club, and for organising access to training, information and resources; but this will be down to the club, and what is decided will provide the most effective way forward in achieving whatever standard you are working towards.
